Motel in Bolton, Lancashire - The Mercury
The Mercury Motel is reputedly Britain's first purpose built Motel. Built in the late 1950's this flat roofed, single storey building resembles the traditional motel seen in many American movies.
Amongst the many famous guests that have stayed here are The Beatles, John Pertwee, Glen Tilbrook and Terry Waite.
We pride ourselves on being unlike the traditional view of a Motel being impersonal. The welcome you will receive at the Mercury is always warm and friendly and we love to welcome new friends into the Mercury family.
This privately run, 3 Star, Quality in Tourism accredited Inn (last reviewed by QIT October 2014), is highly ranked on Trip Advisor for acommodation in Bolton. It offers friendly service and comfort with something to entertain you every night. Or you can relax in your en-suite bedroom and watch freeview television or use the free WiFi.

The Mercury Film set
We have been a location for TV programmes and films. We had an episode of Coronation street filmed in the bedrooms and corridors around the hotel. If you wnat to stay in the Corrie room let us know and we will give you the lowdown on the storyline filmed here.
The next filming was for a series called Utopia. This 6-part series was shown on Channel 4 during that is now available on DVD.
We have completed the filming of a feature film called North South Long Time Coming at the end of 2014. The film about 2 rival gangs with some very well known actors. This is now available on DVD. We hope that the locals weren't too concerned about people brandishing guns and being chased around the rear of the building by armed police.
